Social Media Content Editor
We're looking for someone with a sharp eye for great social media content and the Canva skills to fix it themselves. You'll be the final quality check on everything we create for our clients, working behind the scenes with our creative team. No sales, and no client video calls.
Great content, done right
Step Social is a fast-growing UK social media agency. Our creative team produces posts, videos and stories every week for a growing base of UK and US businesses, and every piece needs to be right before it reaches the client. That's where you come in. We're a small, friendly remote team, so your work matters from day one.
Your eye decides what goes out
You work directly with the founder
You see your work live every week
What you'll be doing
Most of your week is quality-checking and improving content. The rest keeps our clients' accounts running smoothly.
Quality-checking content
Reviewing static posts, videos and stories before they reach clients: designs, captions, facts, statistics and spelling, in UK or US English depending on the client.
Fixing it yourself in Canva
When something isn't right, you fix it directly rather than sending it back, making sure every post matches the client's brand, preferences and tone of voice.
Feedback to our creators
Giving clear, constructive feedback to our content creators, so the standard keeps getting better week after week.
Scheduling and onboarding
Scheduling approved content, helping new clients get set up, and sending their login details.
Simple client requests
Handling straightforward, content-related requests from clients in writing. Full training provided.
What we're looking for
We'll train you on our scheduling platform, client portal and the other tools we use. Canva is the one thing we need you to know from day one.
Essential
- Confident in Canva, and able to edit and fix designs quickly to a professional standard
- At least 1 year's experience creating social media content for businesses
- A sharp eye for what makes a great post, and what makes a poor one
- Experience creating content with AI tools, and good judgement on where AI is and isn't appropriate, always putting the client's preferences first
- Excellent written English, and you know your UK spelling from your US spelling
- UK-based
Also important
- Familiar with at least one social media scheduling platform
- Comfortable picking up new tools and ways of working quickly
- Organised, and happy working to weekly deadlines
A bonus, not a must: basic video editing experience (CapCut or similar), or experience creating content across several different brands at once.
The kind of person who thrives here
Skills can be taught. Attitude can't, so this part matters as much as the list above.
- Positive and upbeat, even on the busiest days
- Takes feedback well, and gives it kindly
- Sees a problem and fixes it, rather than passing it on
- Takes real pride in the small details
- Eager to learn, and quick to pick things up
- Reliable: when you say it'll be done, it gets done
- Enjoys being part of a small team and helping out where needed
In short: we'd rather hire someone with the right attitude and teach them the rest. If you're enthusiastic, dependable and love great content, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll get
What you take away from this job, beyond the hourly rate.
Full training
On our scheduling platform, client portal, tools and processes, so you're confident from your first week.
Direct access to the founder
You work with him day to day, and your ideas on how we do things are genuinely heard.
A settled routine
Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, fully remote. No evenings, no weekends.
Real scope to grow
Your responsibilities and your earnings can grow as you do.
A close-knit remote team
Small, friendly and fully remote. You will know everyone you work with.
The details
Everything you'd want to know before you apply.
Fully remote
UK-based applicants only.
Full-time
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Freelance
Freelance / self-employed contract.
£13 per hour
Paid monthly.
Full training provided
On everything except Canva, which you'll need from day one.
As soon as possible
Ideally by mid-October.
How to apply
Everything goes through the form below. Three things to have ready before you start.
A short video, 60 to 90 seconds
This role isn't on camera, but we hire on personality, so we'd love to meet you. Introduce yourself, tell us about your experience creating content for businesses, and tell us about one social media post you think is brilliant, and why. It doesn't need to be polished, just you. Upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer and have the link ready, with sharing turned on.
A link to your portfolio
Examples of social media content you've created in Canva for businesses. Please make sure it is viewable.
Your answers to three questions
- How long have you been creating social media content for businesses, and which scheduling tools have you used?
- What is the most complex piece of content you've created in Canva, and how do you keep your work on-brand and looking professional?
- What appeals to you about this role?
Applications close 5pm, Friday 2 October 2026. We read them as they come in and will be in touch with everyone who applies. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to complete a short practical task in Canva.
